Set up texting

Text leads and customers from your inbox, automations, and AI team — plus how opt-outs and quiet hours work.

Updated Sep 28, 2026

Texting lets you and your AI team message customers from the Inbox, and it powers reminders and follow-ups.

Check your texting status

Go to Settings → Integrations → Texting (SMS). The badge shows one of three states:

  • Shared RepeatCrew number: texts go out from RepeatCrew's shared number.
  • Dedicated number: texts go out from your business's own number.
  • Not available: texting isn't enabled on this installation yet.

With a dedicated number, customers always see the same number, and replies from people who've never texted you before still reach your inbox. On the shared number, a text from someone who isn't already one of your contacts may not be routed to you.

  1. Under Your dedicated sending number, enter the number in international format, for example +15125550123.
  2. Click Save number.
  3. In Twilio, open the number's Messaging configuration and paste in the two URLs shown on the page:
    • A message comes in, as a webhook using HTTP POST
    • Status callback URL

The number has to be one RepeatCrew can send from. If you're not sure, open a ticket from Help & support and we'll set it up with you.

Opt-outs are handled for you

  • If a customer replies STOP (or UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT), their texts are turned off right away and a note is added to their timeline.
  • If they reply START or UNSTOP, texts are turned back on.
  • RepeatCrew never texts anyone who has opted out or is marked Do Not Contact. This applies to you, your automations, and the AI team.

Quiet hours

Messages written by the AI team are held as drafts during quiet hours, which are 9pm–8am in your time zone by default. Change them in AI team → Guardrails & settings.

Quiet hours don't apply to messages you send yourself, or to automation messages such as appointment reminders.

How new texts are handled

When someone new texts your number, they're added as a lead. If they have an open lead and the conversation's AI mode isn't Off, your receptionist replies, or drafts a reply for your approval.
